An Object is Worth 1000 Words Describing, relating form and function Show the class the artifact images below and ask them to pick one and write a description without using its name. Have volunteers read their descriptions to the class. To test a students descriptive powers, ask the class to identify the artifact he or she has described. Ask students to pick another artifact and write a label for it. Tell them to use as few words as possible and to make their label interesting. Have the class vote on the best label. Finally, read a label from the previous page that the class has not used in any of the exercises above, such as the horsing iron for which there is no image, and ask students to either draw or describe in words what it might look like.
